Hace tiempo que quería contaros sobre los cursos de fotografía que he estado haciendo durante este último año en la escuela de fotografía de Jackie Rueda. Conocí de la existencia de estos cursos por las redes sociales y por su blog 'casi en serio'. También, porque en muchos blogs que sigo hablaban MARAVILLAS de Jackie, cosa que, después de haber hecho tres de sus cursos, puedo confirmar yo misma. Jackie enseña fotografía de una forma diferente, no se basa tanto en la parte técnica, sino que enseña a partir de experiencias personales, a base de ejemplos y de una manera muy cercana. Jackie te cambia completamente la forma de observar el mundo! ♥ Además, los cursos de Jackie tienen algo que hace que te conviertas jackieadicta de por vida!

Además de la escuela de fotografía, Jackie conduce una comunidad fotográfica llamada La Vuelta al Mundo, en la que cada mes propone un tema fotográfico específico y te anima a salir (a tu cámara y a ti) a recorrer tu ciudad en busca de bonitas fotos! Es muy divertido y puede participar cualquier persona sea experta o no!

Yo me compré mi primera cámara réflex, una Canon EOS1200D, hace cosa de un año y desde entonces no se ha separado de mí. Cuando estoy planeando un viaje, lo primero que pienso no es en...vacaciones! sino en... oh! voy a echar miles de FOTOS!!!. Uno de los viajes que está en mi lista TOP10 es la India. Me atrae su cultura y tradiciones, la simbología, sus joyas, y me encanta su comida, hasta ahora, una de mis favoritas!!! (Creo que esto es culpa de Senthil, uno de mis amigos de la India). Una de las cosas que siempre me ha llamado mucho la atención es el Mehandi, o arte de decorar las manos y pies utilizando una pasta hecha con la planta de Henna. Este arte se aplica a las novias hindúes antes de la ceremonia del matrimonio. Los diseños de estos tatuajes son muy elaborados, con una cantidad de detalles infinito y con símbolos que tienen distintos significados.

Bueno, pues aquí viene la historia de mi foto. El tema fotográfico del mes de Mayo en La Vuelta al Mundo es: bajo mis pies, y cuando lo vi, se me encendió una lucecita en mi cabeza. Pensé que era la ocasión perfecta para cumplir uno de mis deseos, tatuarme los pies con henna! Así que le pregunté a una amiga si le importaría hacerlo, y ella muy amablemente accedió (muchíiiiiiiisimas gracias Parinita ♥). Tardamos unas dos horas... y este fue el resultado! Eso sí, yo me quedé feliz como una perdiz y al final conseguí hacer la foto que quería! :) :)

Today, I would like to tell you about the photography courses I've been doing during the past year in the photography school of Jackie Rueda. I knew of the existence of these courses through the social networks and her blog 'Casi en serio'. Also, because in many blogs I follow, everyone speaks very well about Jackie. And, I must say that after having made three of her courses, I can confirm this myself. Jackie teaches photography in a different way, it's not based so much on the technical side, instead, she teaches from her personal experience, based on examples and in a very friendly way. Jackie completely changes the way you see the world! ♥ However, Jackie's courses will make you to be Jackie-addicted for life.

In addition to the photography school, Jackie leads a photographic community called 'La vuelta al Mundo' (Around the World), in which each month she proposes a specific photographic subject and encourages you to go out to tour your city in search for pretty pictures! It's great fun and every person can participate, whether you are a professional photographer or not!

I bought my first SLR, a Canon EOS1200D, about a year ago and since then it has not been separated from me. When I'm planning a trip, the first thing that comes to my mind isn't ... holidays! but ... oh! I'm going to take thousands of PHOTOs !!!. One of the trips that is on my TOP10 list is India. I like the culture and traditions, symbols, jewels, and I love the food, so far, one of my favorite type!!! (I think this is Senthil's fault...one of my indian friends). One of the things that has always caught my attention is the Mehandi, or the art of decorating the hands and feet using a paste made from the henna plant. This art is applied to Hindu brides before the wedding ceremony. The designs of these tattoos are very elaborated, with an infinite amount of details and symbols which have different meanings.

Well, here comes the story of my photo. The photographic subject of May in 'La Vuelta al Mundo' is: under my feet. When I saw it, a light immediately clicked on in my head and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to fulfill one of my desires: to tattoo my feet with henna! So I asked a friend whether she would mind to do so, and she, very kindly, agreed (thanks a lot to Parinitai ♥). It took about two hours ... and this was the result! Of course, I was as happy as a kid and eventually I managed to take the shot I wanted! :) :)

Elephants never forget...

Los elefantes nunca olvidan...

El año pasado tuve la suerte de poder visitar Bali, una pequeña isla de Indonesia. Hablaré de Bali con más detalle en otra entrada, pero hoy me gustaría hablaros de los elefantes de Sumatra. Esta foto fue tomada cuando visitamos el 'Elephant Safari Park' de Bali, uno de los parques del mundo con más elefantes en cautividad, unos 30 incluyendo crías. En el año 2000 el ministro de turismo abrió este parque como una forma de atraer el turismo en Bali. En realidad, Bali nunca ha tenido elefantes, éstos fueron importados de otras partes de Indonesia. Cuando trajeron estos elefantes a Bali, sus entrenadores iban incluidos en el 'pack', los cuales tuvieron que dejar sus hogares para dedicarse plenamente a cuidar estos animales. De hecho, nuestro guía nos contó que una vez tuvo que marcharse unos días, pero pronto recibió una llamada para que volviese lo antes posible, pues su elefante estaba deprimido y no quería comer, además no quería obedecer a ningún otro entrenador y estaba siendo bastante difícil controlarlo.  

Last year I had the good fortune to visit Bali, a small island of Indonesia. I will discuss in more detail my trip to Bali in another post, instead, today I would like to talk about Sumatran elephants. This photo was taken when we visited the '' Elephant Safari Park 'of Bali, one of the world’s park with more elephants in captivity, about 30, including broods. In 2000, the minister of tourism opened this park as a way to attract tourism in Bali. Indeed, Bali has never had elephants, they were imported from other parts of Indonesia. When they brought these elephants to Bali, their trainers were included in this 'pack', they had to leave their homes and devote himself fully to the care of these animals. In fact, our guide told us that once, he had to leave his elephant for a few days, but soon he received a call asking him to return as soon as possible, because his elephant was depressed and did not want to eat, furthermore, the elephant would not to obey any other trainer and it was being quite difficult to control it.

El elefante de Sumatra, es una subespecie del elefante asiático proveniente de la isla de Sumatra. Éstos elefantes son más pequeños que los elefantes africanos, miden unos 2-3 metros de altura, pesan entre 2000 y 4000 kg y pueden llegar a comer hasta 150 kg de materia vegetal al día!! Además, estos animales son muy inteligentes y recuerdan muy bien si alguien les ha hecho daño alguna vez. De hecho, el guía nos contó que una vez un entrenador le pegó para que le obedeciera y al cabo de unos meses, el elefante le devolvió el favor..! Al final será verdad el dicho de: 'tienes más memoria que un elefante'. Es una pena que estos bonitos animales estén en peligro de extinción crítico, se calcula que hay menos de 3000 ejemplares en estado salvaje. La disminución se debe principalmente a que el hábitat de los elefantes está siendo talado, o convertido en plantaciones agrícolas. Se calcula que si esto sigue pasando, los elefantes de Sumatra podrían extinguirse en estado salvaje en menos de 30 años. Posiblemente, en un futuro, sólo podamos ver estos bonitos animales en cautividad, en parques como el que he ido yo. Me pareció un poco triste que estos animales sean usados como una atracción para turistas, donde les enseñan a tocar la armónica y a sonreír cuando les echan una foto, en lugar de estar en su hábitat natural comiendo y haciendo cosas de elefantes.

The Sumatran elephant is a subspecies of the Asian elephant, originally from the island of Sumatra. These elephants are smaller than the African elephants. They are about 2-3 meters tall, they weigh between 2,000 and 4,000 kg and they could eat up to 150 kg of vegetable matter a day!! In addition, these animals are very smart and are able to remember very well whether anyone has ever hurt them. In fact, the guide told us that once a trainer hit him and after a few months, the elephant returned him the favor..! In the end, the saying: 'elephants never forget' must be true.  It's a shame that these beautiful animals are critically endangered species, it is estimated that only 3,000 animals remain in wild. This decrease is mainly due to the felling of the elephant's habitat, in order to  convert it into agricultural plantations. It is estimated that Sumatran elephants could be extinct in wild within 30 years, if this situation doesn’t resolve. Possibly, in the future, we will only see these beautiful animals in captivity, in parks like the one I've been. I felt a bit sad to see that these animals are used as an attraction for tourists, where they are taught to play the harmonica and 'to smile’ when tourists take photos of them, rather than being in its natural habitat, eating and doing things that elephants normally do.
